Join the Ukraine Mentor Scheme

The University of Edinburgh is proud to participate in the UK academic mentoring scheme, led by Science for Ukraine-UK volunteers. Launched in response to the Russian invasion, the programme supports Ukrainian university colleagues affected by the conflict.

Purpose of the Mentoring Scheme

Through this initiative, Science for Ukraine-UK aims to assist Ukrainian colleagues in navigating UK academia. Our mentorship does not provide immigration advice, financial advice, or pastoral support, as the scheme is focused purely on professional development. The main objectives of the scheme are to help Ukrainian academics with:

  • Career planning, CVs, & applications
  • Networking & profile building
  • Understanding UK academic culture
  • Publication process & academic writing
  • Securing UK research funding
  • Promotion & progression

How the mentoring works

As the University of Edinburgh is partnered with Tara Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (KNU), where possible our mentors will be paired with mentees from this partner university in Ukraine.

Mentees will be paired with mentors who are at a similar career stage and work in a related academic discipline. The scheme is open to mentors and mentees from all disciplines.

Mentoring begins as soon as a suitable match is found. The process will be managed via the PushFar Platform, which offers a variety of tools for online and offline communication, including options for scheduling meetings and note-taking.

We expect mentors and mentees to meet at least once every two weeks for a minimum of three months. Sessions will be conducted online via mutually convenient platforms.
