How do we support refugees and at-risk scholars in higher education? The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) held a two-day event in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh and the British Council to look at long term approaches. On March 7 and 8 2019, delegates from around the world attended 'Extending the Welcome: long-term approaches to supporting refugees and at-risk scholars in higher education'. The event aimed to create a space to hear from those who had been affected first hand, as well as for practitioners to share best practice approaches, case studies, and current approaches. The program focuses included: Pathway programmes and skills training – providing alternative routes into higher education for displaced populations around the world Open and distance learning – education provision off-campus in a range of different contexts globally Sanctuary programmes, scholarships and mobility – supporting scholars to be mobile and providing opportunities and support on campus Partnerships – universities working in partnership with each other and wider actors to provide opportunities Read the full news story on the ACU website: Read the article This article was published on 2024-06-24
