Since 2001, the programme has facilitated expertise-sharing in fields ranging from curriculum development to faculty training, with the aim of strengthening U.S.-UK academic and professional ties.What it involves:Host institutions can collaborate with a U.S. Specialist on projects such as:Delivering seminars or workshopsConsulting on faculty or workforce developmentDeveloping academic curriculaLecturing at graduate/undergraduate levelsConducting needs assessmentsWith over 3,000 qualified Specialists available, projects are matched based on expertise. The program supports diverse disciplines, and successful proposals are peer-reviewed.Cost sharing:The U.S. Department of State covers the Specialist’s international travel and honorarium.Host institutions cover in-country per diem costs (lodging, meals, transport).Visa process:Specialists must apply for a Tier 5 (Temporary Workers – Government Authorised Exchange) visa to enter the UK. The US-UK Fulbright Commission issues the Certificate of Sponsorship, but the visa application is the Specialist’s responsibility.Outreach requirement:Host institutions must organise a Fulbright Outreach Event to promote the program and extend the Specialist’s impact within the institution.
