A toolkit has launched where you can find information and support whether you are an international student or staff working with international students in a mentoring or other role. The Transitions and Mentoring Toolkit has directly emerged from the Identities and Transition research project, which was funded by the Mastercard Foundation in partnership with the University of Edinburgh and the University of British Columbia. Find out more about the Identities and Transition research project Transitioning into a new environment This Toolkit reflects the experiences and lived knowledge of both Mastercard Foundation scholars who have undertaken the journey from their respective home countries in Africa to universities in the UK and North America, and of university staff who have worked with them in a mentoring capacity. When International students come to study abroad, they frequently encounter different ways of learning, as well as new academic cultures with differing views and ways of doing things. In this Toolkit, a team of Mastercard Foundation Scholars and researchers from Africa share some of the learnings that they have acquired, exploring experiences and understandings of transitioning into “new” cultural, social, and academic spaces. This Toolkit captures some of the key issues that Mastercard Foundation Scholars face as international students, and it offers information, practical advice and resources intended to support them, and other African International students.
