The Displaced Student Scholarship is open to anyone displaced by conflict, persecution, or other serious human rights violations or deprivations. Eligibility criteria Applicants must meet the following four criteria: Asylum Seeker a person who has made a claim within the UK for refugee status (this includes submission of a fresh claim and in the appeals process) Refugee Status a person granted protection, for example, under the qualification directive or the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) Limited leave to remain on grounds of seeking protection a person seeking protection, for example, trafficked persons and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children who have reached majority age Dependant of any of the above status groups a person with ‘in line’ or ‘dependent’ status Leave under a Resettlement scheme a person with Leave under the UK Resettlement Scheme (UKRS), Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme, Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP), Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS), Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme (Homes for Ukraine) or Ukraine Family Scheme. Application process Complete the scholarship application form below (stage one). If you are eligible for the scholarship, you will be instructed to provide a personal statement (stage two). The deadline for completing the scholarship application (stages one and two) is Monday 4 March 2024, 5pm (BST). Applications will be considered by the scholarship selection panel. You will be notified of your application decision by the first week of April 2024. You must only submit one application. Applying for your degree course You do not have to apply for admission to your chosen degree course before you apply for the scholarship, although it is highly recommended that you apply at the same time or soon after. If you’re not admitted to your chosen programme, then the scholarship cannot be awarded. It is also recommended that you apply for your degree course early to ensure that places haven’t already been filled. Degree courses may also have their own selection deadlines which are earlier than other courses, so please ensure you check these to avoid disappointment. If you do not meet all of the eligibility criteria, you will not proceed to the next stage. Applications are now closed Stage two If you meet all of the eligibility criteria, you will be invited to answer questions around the assessment criteria. These responses will then be submitted for review by the scholarship selection panel. When reviewing applications, the scholarship selection panel will consider short essay questions you have submitted (in stage two of the application) which provide further information about your: Academic merit and potential Demonstrated interest in your chosen field of study Financial need – in particular, your current financial circumstances and if you've received funding from any other source to support your proposed studies.
